Insuring sun protection is not entirely unwise. We deliver in the region of Bussum, Laren, Huizen, Eemnes, Naarden, Muiden and Hilversum and are happy to explain to our customers how they should insure their sun protection in 2025 against unexpected damage.
Home contents insurance or building insurance?
There is often confusion about whether sun protection is covered by home contents or building insurance. In general:
- Home contents insurance: This covers damage to movable property, i.e. anything you can pick up and take with you when moving. Although sun blinds are attached to the outside of your home, many insurers consider them to be contents.
- Building insurance: This covers damage to movable property, such as the construction of your home. Some insurers consider sun protection as part of the building. At the time of writing, for example, Univé considers sun protection as part of the building insurance.
What does this mean for you?
The coverage for sun protection can vary per insurer and type of insurance. In general, damage due to the following causes is covered:
- Storm: Damage caused by wind force 7 or higher. Remember that some insurers apply a deductible for storm damage
- Fire: Damage caused by fire is covered in many cases.
- Theft: If someone is crazy enough to take your sun protection, report it and send the proof to your insurer.
Tips we give to our customers
Check your current insurance:You can find out whether your sun blinds are covered in the terms and conditions of your home contents and/or building insurance.
Consider comprehensive coverage:
Damage caused by your own fault is often also covered, which can be useful in the event of an accident.
Document your sun protection:
Please keep our proof of purchase (invoice) and take photos of your sun protection (we will also do this for you during installation). This can be useful in case of problems.
Maintenance and prevention:
Regular maintenance can prevent damage. For example, consider installing a wind sensor so that your screen automatically retracts during tornadoes.
At STERK Zonweringen you receive a 5-year full factory warranty on all components. Please note: this varies per selling party.
